WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?
If you are new to Chiropractic, or have never seen a chiropractor before, it is quite common to not know what exactly a chiropractor does or how they can help you.
Chiropractors must undergo 5 years of rigorous university studies to attain their degree, during which they are trained in a variety of fields within the sciences of health. Anatomy, physiology, biophysics, biochemistry, radiology, neuroanatomy, differential diagnosis, applied nutrition and physical therapy/rehabilitation are some of the areas that a chiropractor is trained in.
These fields are all required to equip your chiropractor with the necessary tools to accurately diagnose any spinal or neuromusculoskeletal issues you may be experiencing. Although chiropractors can help with issues affecting the arms and legs, they are most famously known for their success resolving back pain, neck pain and/or headaches due to their emphasis on spinal function. Once a diagnosis is reached your chiropractor will work with you to help you reach your health goals so that you can return to enjoying your daily life activities as efficiently as possible.
WHAT IS A CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT?
A chiropractic adjustment, sometimes referred to as a ‘manipulation’, is a quick, controlled movement applied with the hands (or sometimes a specific adjusting tool) that a chiropractor will use to restore movement and function to a specific joint.
Adjustments are mostly applied to spinal joints but can also be applied to other joints in the extremities as well. Often associated with an adjustment is a feeling of relief and easier movement of the region that was adjusted. Read more about adjusting here…
